Roof shingles come in many shapes, sizes and designs, but this type has to be one of the most unusual. Solar panels have been around for many years, but generally they have been mounted on a small part of the roof. The idea of using the entire roof as a power-generating appliance just might catch on.

For now, these solar tile roof shingles are scarce and expensive, but if the concept spreads and more homeowners ask for them, the price should come down. Maybe one day instead of solar panels mounted on a roof, the roof itself will basically be a huge solar panel roof shingle.
