A family of creatures in the attic? Hidden artifacts behind the drywall? You may not realize it, but some inaccessible attics often hold some strange things. On older homes, these potential treasure troves come about because older attics are often un-insulated and uninhabitable, and have long been closed off to the rest of the home. Here are a couple of strange things roofing contractors have discovered over the years.
One roofing contractor was working on an older home in Atlanta and needed access to the attic to reinforce a repair job. He pried open the drywall blocking the entrance and discovered a cache of World War 2 weaponry, most still in working condition! Aside from the machine guns and pistols, there were many accompanying photographs of the factory presumably used to build the weapons!
Another story of a roofing contractor entering a previously sealed attic involves something a bit more creepy. The homeowner had been complaining of noises coming from the roof, with the assumption that it was the peeling shingles. An exterior inspection proved that to not be the case, so the contractor entered the attic. Much to his surprise, a family of approximately 50 bats had made the attic their home. Needless to say, the roofing contractor had fixed the problem without having to do a thing to the roof! So to those with sealed attics, you really never know what you may find up there!
